Music Academy
The Cornwall Hill College Music Academy is one of the largest, liveliest and unique in Gauteng. We believe that cultural activities play as an important role as sports and academics which furthers our holistic approach to a well-rounded education. With a huge array of ensembles, orchestras and choirs and more than 28 specialist music staff, the School’s Music Academy is a department we are most proud of.
More than 70% of pupils at Cornwall take part in musical activities throughout the year and there are opportunities for all types of musician, from Classical, Jazz and Contemporary to Rock n Roll.
Facilities
The newly-renovated Music Academy is made up of a Music Hall, 13 practice rooms, four classrooms, two technology studios and 25 computer work stations. We offer every pupil training and experience in music technology.
Individual instrumental tuition
We offer tuition to students from Grade 0: Piano, keyboard, violin, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, flute, piccolo, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, voice, drums, trumpet, French horn, trombone and euphonium.
Music theory is delivered through dedicated theory sessions by exceptionally experienced and talented teachers.
Professional musicians regularly visit the Academy to run performance workshops and pupils take part in valuable masterclasses throughout the year to prepare them for the various exam boards such as ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School.
