COLLEGE

Welcome to Cornwall Hill College High School

As a relatively small school, we are intentional about the relationships we form with each individual placed in our care. To quote Theodore Roosevelt: “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” This quote challenges us to be more than mere subject experts who meet the academic needs of the pupils seated in our classrooms.

Instead we strive to get to know each pupil personally and to nurture them in a safe environment. This encourages them to take risks, to discover their talents and strengths and to grow in confidence and self-awareness.

Old fashioned manners, pride in appearance and participation in our extensive co-curricular programme is the “Cornwall Way.”

We provide a holistic curriculum resting on the pillars of academic quality and innovation via a wide subject choice, sporting and cultural excellence and hands on community service.

Our vision is to produce self-actualised individuals with the necessary values and skills to maximise and build their tomorrows.

Thank you for taking the time to browse through our website. If you are considering becoming a part of this vibrant community, I invite you to visit us and learn more about what we have to offer.

College Principal

As a College, we offer much more than just a place where a child comes to learn.

The foundation of our values-based, pupil-centred, holistic approach to education are our tutor groups where no more than 16 pupils at a time are mentored and cared for by quality staff.  In this nurturing environment, pupils are challenged to step beyond their comfort zone and develop to their full potential in order to take their place as well-rounded, mature adults in society.

Our balanced, innovative curriculum in which our Grade 12 pupils write the Independent Examination Board’s National Senior Certificate Examination has seen us record no failures since the College inception in 1998. Annually a number of our best performers appear in the top 50 nationally.

Curriculum

At our School we pride ourselves in achieving and maintaining excellent academic standards. In Grade 12 our pupils write the Independent Examination Board’s National Senior Certificate Examination. Since its inception, the College has had no failures, while our pupils are mentioned in the top 1% of various subject areas and a number of our top performers appear in the top 50 nationally. A number of our echelon staff are National Examiners, Moderators for Languages as well as School Based Assessment Moderators for various subjects.

Apart from the Grade 12 final examinations the College also enters all Grade 9 pupils for the annual International Benchmark Tests (IBTs) conducted by the Australian Board of Educational research (ACER). These tests measure the academic performance of pupils in English and Mathematics and compare them with their counterparts in countries like Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.  The test averages are consistently on par with the test averages of the countries mentioned.  A number of pupils have been placed in the top 1% of pupils writing the assessments.

Apart from the assessments mentioned, we encourage pupils to take part in the various Olympiads that are on offer. Pupils have successfully entered and excelled in the De Beers English Olympiad and the (ATKV) Afrikaans Gebruiks Olimpiade.
